Missions

Women's Ministries

There are currently two Women's Circles (Loyalty and Grace) that meet monthly for refreshments and Bible Study. These groups support their members, maintain contact with shut-in members, and donate to mission projects.

Music Ministries

Music is a vital part of the Worship at BRC and several members commit to the necessary practices for Choir, Praise Team, and Hand Bell Choir. These groups pray and practice together. There is also a Taiwanese Choir which joins the Chancel choir to sing special anthems or during the Lent and Advent seasons.

RAIHN

Several members of BRC have participated as volunteers with RAIHN (Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network). Four times a year, BRC hosts 5 temporarily homeless families or up to 15 persons for a week. Two other faith communities participate with BRC, by also providing volunteers for the many necessary tasks, i.e. grocery shopping, preparing meals and snacks, staying overnight, or providing hospitality to the temporarily homeless families who are participating in the program.

We consider the families our “guests” and treat them with respect and love. Many families in the program have been helped to get a job and move back into their own apartment or home. The Rochester RAIHN program was recognized one year as the “best in the nation.”

Habitat for Humanity

Some BRC members have participated in Habitat for Humanity by volunteering on committees and at building sites. The Churches in the "Brighton" area have sponsored 4 houses—one every 3 years. T-shirts and pie sales have helped fund the program. A clothing drop-off shed is maintained on BRC property by the Brighton Coalition.

Community Garden

This garden has been the focal point of our back yard. Church members, neighbors and friends participate in maintaining individual plots. We have had many nationalities, age groups and languages (including Russian, Taiwanese, and Romanian) represented, with the resulting interesting array of unique vegetables grown. Outside the fence we grow flowers to beautify and enhance the garden and have a "Gleaner's Garden" of tomatoes to share with friends and church people.

Camp Fowler

Camp Fowler is a rustic camp, conference and retreat center located in the Adirondack Mountains of NY.  The camp is sponsored by the RCA and is used by all churches in the region for retreats, fellowship opportunities and camping.  A weekly summer camp program is offered for children.  This beautiful property is located lakeside outside of Speculator, NY.

Men's Fellowship Breakfast

Every Wednesday Morning at 8 AM all men of the congregation are invited to join for breakfast at the Atlantic Family Restaurant in Webster.  This is an opportunity for the men to fellowship together and form a bond of community.

Other Ministries

Throughout the year, BRC members bring food items that help supply the Rochester Food Cupboard. But just before Thanksgiving, members donate money or grocery items that make it possible for the Rochester Family Mission to provide food for a special holiday dinner for those who are less fortunate. Before Christmas, BRC members bring unwrapped gifts for children of families to whom the Rochester Family Mission ministers.
