Christian Education

Scripture is most meaningful when read slowly, so that time is given for each lesson to be written onto the heart.  One practice that is particularly useful is to read the same passage of scripture in devotions for an entire week.  In this spirit, our Adult Bible Study meets each week after worship and looks at the passage on which the pastor will preach the following week.  This discussion serves as a starting point so that participants can take the questions, ideas, and challenges of the group and wrestle with them throughout the week during their personal devotions.

Additionally, there are topical adult education classes, which run 4-5 weeks and are taught by the pastor during this Adult Education hour.  Recent classes have included Worship (and what the theological implications of what we do each week) and Reading Scripture (how to take the task of interpretation and application seriously).  There is also a Lenten Series on Wednesday Evenings during Lent, which focuses on a seasonally appropriate topic each year.

Children are enthusiastically welcomed at BRC.  Children's education begins with our Little Lambs program, which focuses on 3 and 4 year olds.  This program involves a short story, and time to respond to the story with a craft that is suitable for our younger learners.  Children 5 and older participate in our Children and Worship Program.  This program follows a similar format, but is geared toward children who are a few years older, with longer attention spans and an ability to process stories at a deeper level.  Our youth gather with the pastor for fellowship, theological instruction, and Bible Study on Monday evenings; a variety of resources are used in these gatherings.

Finally, we are blessed with much diversity at BRC, including a large number of folks for whom Taiwanese is their native language.  While we all worship together as one, united body of Christ, there is a Bible Study on Friday evenings that is conducted in Taiwanese.  The Taiwanese language Bible Study provides an additional adult education opportunity for our congregants (and others in the community) who speak Taiwanese.
