The Baptismal Promise
When a child is baptized, that child is received “into the visible membership of the holy catholic Church.” As members of the Church, they participate in its life. At Brighton Reformed Church, we take this membership seriously. Our children are part of the body of Christ and we seek to help them as they grow up in the faith, and as we grow with them.
As part of the baptismal covenant, the congregation promises “to love, encourage, and support them by teaching the gospel of God’s love, by being an example of Christian faith and character, and by giving the strong support of God’s family in fellowship, prayer, and service.”
Our children’s programs are designed to assist us as we strive to live into these promises. We seek to nurture our children through them and guide them in their journey of faith. |
Children and Woship
Worship
is the central task of God’s people. We
exist for God’s pleasure. God is the
giver of all good gifts that come to us. We come together as his people to worship our creator,
sustainer, redeemer and provider.
Children are a vital part of the worship life of BRC, and they are
instructed and included in the worship life of our congregation.
On most Sundays our children begin in the sanctuary with their families for the first portion of worship - our Approach to God. Afterward, they come forward to receive a blessing and are then dismissed to their Children and Worship space.
In Children and Worship, they are presented with a lesson from
scripture, told in a way that is accessible to their developing minds. The stories stimulate responses in the
children and the young worshipers are then invited to act on these responses in
the ways children respond – through music, crafts, re-enactment, etc. In this way, our kids are mirroring what we
are doing upstairs – hearing the Word and Responding – but doing so in an
age-appropriate manner. |

Fowler Day Camp
Each
year, BRC hosts a day camp for one week toward the beginning of the
summer. This is a partnership with Camp
Fowler, an RCA camp in the Adirondacks.
Fowler provides much of the programming while BRC provides support staff
such as counselors, cooks, administration volunteers, etc. Pastor Dave also serves as chaplain.
This is a week of fun and Christian education
for kids entering 3rd grade through kids entering 7th grade. Along with BRC's kids, we invite kids from
the neighboring community to be a part of this wonderful week. |
